Being a Girl Mom
Kobe Bryant’s untimely death prompted the popular hashtag #girldad. Dads all around the world were posting pictures on every social media platform of their girls, and letting it be known that they were proud to have them. This was a beautiful thing to see and it got me thinking about being a #GirlMom. Now this is not to take away from the importance of being a girl dad at all, but I feel there is something extra special about being a girl mom.
We know that being a girl is special and so having the opportunity to become the mom of a girl is even more special. Girls are often said to be more emotional than boys in their own right. After all, It’s not easy being cute and fabulous at the same time. Girl moms get to share in all of the emotional cuteness our daughters come with. We get to indulge our daughters and connect with them in ways only a mom can.
Being a girl mom means having a mini version of yourself running around. It means endless conversations about things only a mom would understand. Girl moms have the opportunity to pour so much love, confidence and self worth into our daughters. We are privileged to walk with our girls through life, while giving them the tools necessary to be the princesses and eventually queens we know they were born to be.
There are some things a girl will never go to dad about. Some things that only mom can truly understand. This is why being a girl mom should never be taken lightly. Girl moms have to know how privileged we are. We must be mindful of the way we carry ourselves, the words we speak, how we allow others to treat us, and how we treat our daughters. We are the “blueprint” of womanhood for our daughters. We are who they see first.
When people would find out I was having a girl, some would wish me luck and tell me girls are too much, while others would share all there was to look forward to with having a girl. We know that girls are often labeled dramatic, extra, sensitive, and the list goes on. But who care’s! At the end of the day, we are beautifully and wonderfully made. Being a girl is awesome and being a girl mom is even more amazing. In the words of Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl “Dig me like the earth, you be giving birth. Took everything in life, baby, know your worth”. I love everything about being a #Girlmom and I’ll do my very best to raise a magnificent daughter!
“The best thing about the world, I’ll never trade you for anybody else” -Bey
