True Happiness!

We grow up with certain thoughts about what family is, what love should feel like and an idea of true happiness. We learn that our family members should come before any and everything. That cousins are the only friends we really need and that blood is always thicker than water.

We are told that when you love someone, you make sacrifices for them and that true happiness involves you putting others needs before your own.

And then we get good and grown and we realize that family members aren't limited to people we share last names with, blood is just blood and how we feel and what we need does not have to be pushed to the side for others in order to attain true happiness.

If we are honest with ourselves, we will admit that happiness is something we all desire along with great relationships, love and peace of mind. Our desires are often at the forefront of our daydreams and we simply want them to come true.

As I grow older, I realize that family is so much more than blood related relatives. In fact family has everything to do with those who are there when you need them most. Family supports your dreams and love you no matter what and it really is so good "loving somebody when somebody loves you back". I also realize that we create happiness via  healthy relationships, hobbies, travel, and even careers. Our happiness ultimately lies in our own hands. We get to choose how we want to live our lives and who we want to share our journeys with.

Often times we get stuck in places because we forget that aside from God, we have a choice in the matter. If you are not happy with that job, find a new one.  If you aren't feeling that relationship, partnership, friendship, take inventory and make the necessary changes. The moral of this story: Do more of what you love and in those things you will find true happiness.
